Why dilute for babies?
Babies need extra gentle dosing. Dilution reduces alcohol (in liquids) and avoids choking risk (with pillules) – while keeping the remedy fully effective.
Liquid Remedies:
Dilution method: Add 3 drops of your liquid remedy into 1 oz of water. Stir or shake gently. Give a few drops from that diluted mixture via spoon or syringe. Use within 24 hours.
Spoon Method: Place 3 drops of the remedy into a metal spoon. Let sit for 30-60 seconds. Then add a bit of water and give to baby. Metal spoons help evaporation of alcohol faster.
Pillules:
Dissolve in Water: Place 3 pillules into 1 oz of water. Let them dissolve fully. Stir gently, then give a few drops as the dose to the baby. Use within 24 hours.
A few notes:
- Yes, you can add remedies to breastmilk instead of water. Ideally this is not the entire bottle to control frequency of dosing. See the dilution method above on how to do so (replace water with breastmilk).
- Because our liquid remedies contain alcohol, it is not advised for babies to be dosed directly into the mouth. Consider the dilution method for children under 3.
- With pillules, it is not advised to dose directly into the mouth until at least the age of 3.
