In homeopathy, remedies are prepared in various potencies. Potency refers to the strength of a remedy and is determined by its level of dilution and succession (where the original substance is vigorously shaken). In this process of repeatedly diluting a substance in water or alcohol and shaking it, the substance’s energetic signature is imprinted.

In homeopathy, the more a remedy is diluted and succussed, the higher its potency- meaning the remedy works on a deeper energetic level, rather than a physical one. Despite degrees of dilution, homeopathy operates on the principle that the body’s vital force responds to the remedy’s energy and stimulates the self-healing process.

The potency chosen will depend on a few factors: the condition, sensitivity, and the nature of the ailment/matter.

Lower potencies (such as 6X, 6C, 12X, 12C) are typically used for acute, physical symptoms.

Medium potencies (such as 30C and 200C) could be considered a “bridge remedy” in that they start supporting both the physical and emotional plane.

Higher potencies (such as 1M, 10M, or higher) address deeper-seated emotional, mental, or chronic conditions.

Common potencies & general uses:

Low Potencies
(such as 6C, 6X, 6C, 12X, 12C)

  • Characteristics: These potencies have a lower level of dilution and retain more of the original substance. They work primarily on a physical level.
  • Uses: Acute conditions with prominent physical symptoms (examples include colds, coughs, and mild injuries). For low potencies, repeated dosages are often required. Low potency remedies are ones you can often find in your local health store. 6X is commonly used for tissue support, like in cell salts.
  • Other examples of commonly used potencies include Arnica 6C for bruising and Chamomilla 12C for teething discomfort.

Medium Potencies
(such as 30C and 200C)

  • Characteristics: These potencies have higher dilutions and start to work on both physical and emotional levels.
  • Uses: 30C: Used for acute conditions when there is an emotional component, such as grief, shock, or anxiety alongside physical symptoms. This potency is often taken less frequently (for example, 1-3 times daily is a common direction to find on labels). 200C: Typically used for deeper-seated or more intense acute conditions, like high fevers, severe pain, or emotional trauma. This potency is generally taken as a single dose or at wider intervals.
  • Examples: Ignatia 30C for grief or Belladonna 200C for sudden high fevers.

High Potencies
(such as 1M, 10M, 50M)

  • Characteristics: These potencies are highly diluted and act on a deep, energetic level, affecting the emotional, mental, and spiritual states more than the physical.
  • Uses: 1M: Used for chronic conditions, deep emotional imbalances, or to address constitutional issues. This potency is often given as a single dose and repeated only if necessary. 10M, 50M: Reserved for very deep-seated chronic or constitutional issues. These are typically used by experienced practitioners due to their profound and long-lasting effects.

Examples: Natrum Muriaticum 1M for long-standing grief or Sulphur 10M for chronic constitutional conditions.

Homochords

In homeopathy, a homochord is a formulation that blends multiple potencies of the same remedy into one preparation. By combining low, medium, and high potencies, it works across multiple levels simultaneously- on the physical, emotional, mental, and energetic planes. This approach aims to provide a broader and more comprehensive therapeutic effect, addressing both acute symptoms and deeper, chronic imbalances for more holistic healing.

Homochords are often used in detox-specific protocols. For example, a homochord made from a specific toxin may help the body eliminate it while also addressing any lingering energetic imbalances. These multi-potency preparations are widely utilized in modern homeopathy, especially in complex formulations, and are often used for conditions like allergies, infections, and chronic inflammation.

In homeopathy, a Kentian homochord is a blend of the same remedy in multiple potencies, typically ranging from low to high (e.g., 12C, 30C, 200C, 1M, 10M). Rooted in the teachings of James Tyler Kent, this approach aims to enhance therapeutic effectiveness by allowing the body to respond at the potency level it requires. By combining multiple potencies, the remedy is believed to act on physical, emotional, and energetic levels simultaneously for a more comprehensive healing effect.

Much like a traditional homochord, in a Fibonacci homochord, multiple potencies of the same remedy are combined and given together. What’s unique here is that  Fibonacci homochord follows a potency sequence based on the Fibonacci series (e.g., 3C, 5C, 8C, 13C, 21C, 34C, 55C, 89C, 144C, 233C). This approach is designed to align with natural growth patterns and biological rhythms- promoting a more harmonious and individualized response to treatment. This is thought to engage the body’s self-healing mechanisms in a balanced and progressive manner. This method is used to stimulate healing progressively, moving from lower to higher potencies in a structured way.
